Having well over 30 years experience in freshwater and marine fishkeeping and a diverse spectrum of hobbies, the current fish room is the culmination of a lifetimes worth of dreams and effort. And we are still growing.
We currently have over 125 "aquariums", totaling over 2400 Gallons. Ranging in size and complexity from the 125-gallon computer-controlled Reef tank, or Hi-tech CO2 injected planted tank, to a bunch of half gallon Critter Keepers with sponges. This diversity helps us get a feel for the true requirements of different organisms.
The newly expanded "Guppy room" - consisting of 4 additional racks that are using tap-water - has proven to be successful after a short acclimation period. Our tap water is extremely hard and alkaline and has been a problem in the past. Pre-treating the water with a small amount of acid (HCl) before use has proven to bring it into a more "normal" alkalinity and the fish are now thriving. Killifish and Marine organisms are still kept in the fish room with salted or remineralized RO water.
We have a passion for breeding and propagating these fish and other critters. Many of these species are extinct or in danger of becoming so, as civilization moves in and paves over what used to be their native habitats. Many easy to keep aquatic plants used to be common in pet stores, but now are hard to find. It is a pleasure to have and care for these beautiful creatures and share them others.
We added a greenhouse to our aquaculture venture in the winter of 2024. While the north Texas climate is not ideal for many fish species, there are others that should benefit from sunlight and seasonality. This new facility is mostly experimental, and we will be sure to share what we learn. At the minimum It should enable us to have Daphnia and aquatic plants available more reliably.
Our main approach is DIY. Not that it is necessarily cheaper to build from scratch, but rather that there is more to be learned and understood when you do it yourself. And in some cases, it IS cheaper. This knowledge is shared on YouTube and here on our site under Media to help you and the community.
Additionally, information on the species and products we work with can be found under the Plants and Livestock pages. For now, these pages will mostly cover items that we have had good success with and therefore may have available for purchase (see the Buy Here page).
Everything we sell online is bred, propagated, mixed, designed, or otherwise created in house. We do not resell fish bought from wholesalers. We do not rebrand and resell supplies. If its alive, we grew it. If its gear or chemical, we designed and built or mixed it. Our goods are disease and parasite free because there is no constant flow of strange fish brought into the environment. But supply is also very limited. So don't wait if you see something you like - buy with confidence before its gone.
Check back often! - there are many new projects underway to read about or take part in!
And finally, we would love to hear from you! If you have questions or comments, post them on the YouTube videos, reach out on Band, or email us.
