Vallisneria

Vallisneria are a hardy aquatic plant of the tape-grasses family. As one of the first kept aquarium plants they are a classic addition to any aquarium.

It does well in most pHs, hardness, and lighting, but grows best in hard alkaline water with medium to high light. Val is unusual in that it can be a good addition to brackish tanks, though it will grow slower. It should be well rooted and provided ample nutrients to the roots. It grows like grass, putting up long thin leaves from a root node. It spreads by putting out runners that develop new nodes.

Jungle Val (Vallisneria americana)

known for its long thin leaves typically growing to 10-16 inches tall in aquarium but capable of growing 6 feet.

It is a moderately fast-growing plant; Additional root fertilizer may be necessary in tanks with older or inert substrate.
This plant can grow tall unless trimmed. It is best used as a background or biotope plant.

Sold in bunches of 3 to 4 plantlets (nodes). One bunch is enough to plant about nine square inches of tank space.

Red Corkscrew Val (Vallisneria sp.)

a beautiful variety similar to the Jungle Val above, but with a spiral twist and shades of crimson in the leaves.

Care and propagation are Identical to Jungle Val, however bright light is necessary to achieve the red colors. Under lower light the plant will be green.

Sold in bunches of 3 to 4 plantlets (nodes). One bunch is enough to plant about nine square inches of tank space.
